This document lists important questions and answers about using eagle-i. The eagle-i Consortium recommends that you read the entire document before using eagle-i.

eagle-i Search

Can I use the same log in credentials for both Search and Add Information?
You can use the same username and password but you must log in separately to Search and Add Information. If you are logged in to Add Information and want to Search, click Home to return to the Search landing page.
Can I search publications using a PubMed ID?
When you are searching PubMed, you can use the PMID. You can also search PubMed for an article by name or by author.
How can I browse search results for only non-Core (private) laboratories?
Currently, you can browse only core laboratories or both core and private laboratories.
What results do I see if I search on a gene ID?
If you search for a gene ID, eagle-i returns any resource that contains the gene ID string. For example, Mutation Type properties are considered part of an Organism. A search using a gene ID string returns an organism that has a mutation with the given gene ID.
What if the resource I’m looking for is not in the auto-suggest list?
If you don’t see the resource you are looking for in the list, try typing the full name of the resource or try using special search syntax. For example, if you are looking for a particular laboratory, type the name of the laboratory surrounded by quotes, “Microscopy Core Laboratory”. Click Search. Only exact matches will be returned in the results list.

eagle-i Add Information

When I create a new organization, what do I enter as the Organization Description?
A new organization’s Organization Description is a summary about the type of research done by the facility or other information representative of the facility. The Resource Description should not replicate all information found on the facility's web site, but instead should provide an overview of the organization.
What is data curation?
Data curation is the active and on-going management of data through its lifecycle of interest and usefulness to scholarship, science, and education. Data curation activities enable data discovery and retrieval, maintain its quality, add value, and provide for re-use over time.” (http://www.lis.illinois.edu/academics/programs/ms/datacuration)
What type of Comments should I add?
Add any information that might help the curators curate the record. This might include explanations for missing information in the record, other notes about the annotation process, or explanatory web links. Information entered as comments will NOT be published and is not searchable.
How do I enter publication information?
You can add new documents from the Protocol sidebar menu. Click add new, and in the form click the taxonomy browser (book icon) to change the Document Type to publication. Then enter further information about the publication.
